SASs can be built utilizing a straightforward method that makes use of more contemporary technology by integrating three distinct sets of devices together with two local area networks. The process devices group is comprised ofanalog-to-digital convertersas well as actuator devices, and its primary function is to facilitate the transition between SAS and high voltage equipment. The term “inteface devices” refers to a collection of “Intelligent Electronic Devices“, or “IEDs,” which are able to receive and process signals that are transmitted from high voltage apparatus. The application devices group is comprised of all of the computers and other components that are necessary to successfully operate control features and interface with both internal and external subsystems.

Thank you for featuring our Henry Niveri in the January 2024 issue of T&D World. In the article he explores virtualization as a solution to many of the challenges medium-voltage substation operators are facing today: a rapidly changing power grid environment, reducing costs, simplifying equipment maintenance and updates, accommodating increasing numbers of distributed energy resources - all while responding to constant and high demand.Learn more 👉 https://lnkd.in/dSi7bpJS#ABB #centralizedprotection #virtualization #SSC600 #SSC600SW #protection #innovation

📃Scientific paper: Cyber-attack TTP analysis for EPES systemsAbstract:The electrical grid constitutes of legacy systems that were built with nosecurity in mind.As we move towards the Industry 4.0 area though a high-degreeof automation and connectivity provides: 1) fast and flexible configuration andupdates as well as 2) easier maintenance and handling of misconfigurations andoperational errors.Even though considerations are present about the securityimplications of the Industry 4.0 area in the electrical grid, electricitystakeholders deem their infrastructures as secure since they are isolated andallow no external connections. However, external connections are not the onlysecurity risk for electrical utilities. The Tactics, Techniques and Procedures(TTPs) that are employed by adversaries to perform cyber-attack towards thecritical Electrical Power and Energy System (EPES) infrastructures aregradually becoming highly advanced and sophisticated. In this article weelaborate on these techniques and demonstrate them in a Power Plant of thePublic Power Corporation (PPC).The demonstrated TTPs allow to exploit andexecute remote commands in smart meters as well as Programmable LogicControllers (PLCs) that are responsible for the power generator operation. 🛡️ Understanding key differences in IEC and IEEE standards for surge arresters 🛡️In today's post, we delve into the technical nuances that define the key differences between IEC 60099-4:2014 and IEEE C62.11-2020, reflecting the unique approaches to surge arrester design, fabrication and application in different global markets.🌍 Differing installation conditions: European vs. US approachesOur PROXAR® surge arresters are designed to meet and exceed prescriptive expectations. We consider the diversity of power systems and the impact of environmental conditions. In Europe, where our focus is on protecting power facilities, our devices have a higher energy dissipation capacity and robustness of design and mountings, ensuring reliability even in the harshest conditions. This contributes to the long service life and the adequate manufacturing cost of our arresters.🦅 Lighter design for the US marketIn contrast, the U.S. market requires a different design philosophy with its extensive substation-to-station power lines and the peculiarities of the storm level (isokeraunic). Here, surge arresters are mainly used to protect transmission line equipment, allowing for lower energy performance and lighter construction, resulting in lower manufacturing costs.💡 An observation from a Protektel expert. As Jacek Turkowski, Director of Marketing and Sales at Protektel, notes, although our PROXAR® arresters successfully protect both substations and power lines, according to both standards, there is a clear distinction in energy and mechanical strength between substation and line arresters (TLA), which is crucial when choosing the right devices for specific applications.🔍 Discover more: PROXAR® surge arresters meet IEEE C62.11-2020.Our commitment to providing products that meet and IEC and IEEE underscores Protektel's mission to provide the highest level of protection and reliability. We encourage you to explore our full range of solutions to understand how PROXAR® can support your energy security needs.#protektel #proxar #standards #surgearresters
