As a runner and a coach, Sally has always been someone that I’ve been so inspired by. I recently had the opportunity to talk to her about her Grand Slam of 200 mile races. Check out the blog to read how she prepared for the challenge and how she used her COROS watch to go the distance. https://lnkd.in/ePE73ahh

A thrilling weekend filled with determination! 🏎️An exciting update from racing driver, Sam Harvey:"Despite facing budget constraints, I eagerly took part in a few exhilarating laps on Friday, starting the weekend at a slight disadvantage. However, things turned around during qualifying, securing a respectable position for Races 1 and 2, commencing from third place.Race 1 kicked off with a strong start as I swiftly gained positions, securing an impressive second place after the race leader's spin. Focused on earning valuable points, I adopted a cautious strategy, elated with the outcome and satisfied with my performance.Sunday's Race 2 was nothing short of intense, featuring thrilling lead changes and fierce battles. Although a spin resulted in a Did Not Finish (DNF), the experience gained was invaluable and provided a significant boost in confidence.Race 3 presented a challenge, with a starting position from the back of my class. However, undeterred, I fought my way up to an incredible second place, engaging in exhilarating battles along the way. Although a small error allowed a teammate to overtake, a late incident provided me with an opportunity to regain second place. While a podium hattrick eluded me, I couldn't be more pleased with my performance, knowing that this was my strongest showing to date. The elusive victory is well within my reach!Next on the agenda: Silverstone for the G-Fest weekend, an extended four-day event designed to test the endurance of both cars and drivers. I am determined to persevere and bring home a well-deserved triumph!"Best of luck, Sam! We stand firmly behind you every step of the way 🏁#RacingPassion #BirminghamBusiness #Ginetta50thAnniversary #BirminghamFixings

I live on the local 5k race route. There was a race on Saturday. I get a front row (and warm) seat for all the action, and I love watching the race. 🏃♂️ I’ve even run this route many times over the years, but I’ve retired from racing (LOL—‘twas a short, pain filled career)I’m reminded of a lot by watching the runners—and a lot of it relates to business/life.1)There’s the leader of the race, fast, confident—he’s all heart, lungs, and legs. He glides with long strides and amazing fluidity. Not everyone can be that guy—but it makes me want to lace up the Brooks and take a lap. It’s inspiring to see how good someone can be. 💸 2)There’s the pack—they’re usually 1-2 minutes behind the leader. This is the group that’s really racing. Lots of determined looks, the pain is setting in, and they’ve got a point to prove. About 40% of the racers are in this group. These people are in it to win it-- they’re racing to beat the people they can see. 💪 3)2-3 minutes later, the hair is grayer and the bellies are bigger on the men. The women’s hips are wider, some are kind of jogging. But most of them look happy, and they’re having fun. They get a race number, and a t-shirt too, just like Mr. Impressive. 😇 4)A bit behind the 3rd group are the walkers, the jogging strollers, and the groups of friends enjoying a nice walk in a pretty part of town. Lots more talking, even some laughter. Many are checking a device to see their progress. Everyone is moving, and some of the biggest struggles are on display—but they keep 😎 moving—and this is usually when I find myself getting a little emotional standing at my brooding window sipping my 3rd cup of coffee. I think I’ve been in all these groups—at least in business. I’ve never been Mr. Impressive in a 5k race. Keep moving—you get a number and a t-shirt too.#yourbizyourinvestment#runyourrace#winning#milestogo

With the velodrome I trained at closed during COVID, I sought new challenges to exercise my competitive desires—something I need to keep in check. Otherwise, I torture my poor wife, making her play games with me! I found go-kart racing and started to compete at Calspeed, one of, if not THE most competitive go-karting facility in America, luckily based close by in Fontana. In 2021 the middle of the season, I had my first race, finishing about 70th. During the rest of the season, I never made my goal of reaching the A final, which would mean making the top 30 of 90. By season's end, I finished 57th overall, which was pretty humbling for someone who thought they were fast! For 2022 I had two big aims, win the SE category (the Rookie of the Year award) and podium in an A final. I knew this would need a massive jump in speed and performance. So put my money where my mouth is and hired a coach, karting legend Mike Smith. He retaught me how to drive. I thought we would be discussing braking points and corner turn-ins etc. Instead, he showed me that vision was the vital ingredient I was missing. At first, I was confused. What did he mean? I was looking! In fact, I had better awareness than most of the racers due to my years of high-level track cycling. The problem was I wasn’t looking at the right place! I was looking at my competitors or where I thought I should be braking. Instead, he taught me to look exactly where I wanted the kart to go, the corner apex, and to do so as soon as possible. This would allow my subconscious to take over and do all the braking and corner exit point stuff for me automatically. Allowing my conscious part to focus on racecraft, the fun bit of overtaking and advancing up the field! Damn, once I really got the hang of it, this vision focus really worked. My lap times tumbled, and I was making the A final pretty much every race, PLUS I was getting really good at overtaking and charging through the field. I finished higher than my qualifying in 15 of my 16 race days. Yes, that means there is still room to improve my pure pace 😃 So how did it turn out? I won the SE class with two rounds to go, and I got on that podium in the very last race of the series! I also finished 8th overall, 49 places better than the year before! All with the support of Coach Mike. Thanks mate! My takeaways✅However good/talented you think you are, good coaching will make you better!✅Be brave with your goals. It helps keep you motivated and focused✅I need a competitive outlet. That’s a part of me that needs to be exercised for me to find balance✅Not only did I really enjoy the racing experience, I unexpectedly found a wonderful community that really welcomed me. I’ve never had so much fun competing before! What's your next big challenge? What goals excite and motivate you?Where could your life benefit from coaching, guidance, and an outside perspective?#FulfillmentCoach #SuccessCoaching #GoalAchievement

Nobody likes change... but we have to embrace it as it is everywhere... with tomorrow being Preakness Day, the 2nd race of the triple crown, regardless if Mystik Dan wins there will be an asterisk for the "Belmont Stakes"...This year the race will be run at Saratoga racecourse in upstate New York since Belmont Park is going through a 2-year renovation, and they will be shortening the race from 1 1/2 miles to 1 1/4 miles.I know it seems insignificant, but for the purists it's a travesty. Just like during the Pandemic when the races were run out of order, the same people stepped up and said the same thing. For 37 years between Affirmed and American Pharoah we had so much time to debate as a racing community, about racing these horses 3 times in 5 weeks was too much, maybe it couldn't be done again, then it happens two years in a row. It's been 5 years since we have had a triple crown winner or even a horse contend and be in the running for the triple crown, so of course I am going to be pulling for Mystik Dan to pull of another victory and give the fans something to cheer for on June 8th.Meanwhile today is the Black-Eyed Susan the filly version of The Preakness for 3 year old fillies. Which I don't understand why any other "series" of races do not catch peoples attention. We do have big race days, but not a multi-track string of races that draw as much attention of the Triple Crown. My take on the Black-Eyed Susan:The only graded stakes winner is Lemon Muffin.Gun Song is the favorite for having run the fastest Beyer speed figures. Here are my plays:If #8 Recharge gets the lead she can control the race.I am leaning #7 Corposo, an angle I like is when a horse regresses in Beyer figures on the 3rd race. Meaning the old adage is the horse needs time to "warm up" between races, and typically when they come back from a longer layoff, you can see the progression, and by the third race there could be a pop, well this horse ran a 73, 79 (and won) and third off fired a 78, which was also a G2. This talked me into the pick, lol.Other horses I like:#4 Call Another Play - Won 3 in a row at Laurel Park and with a smaller type of field might be fine with the added 1/16th of a mile.#2 Ringy Dingy - Coming off a layoff, but solid outside of the G2 on a muddy track at Aqueduct.Good luck and stay tuned for the Preakness tomorrow!

I think 5K Cross Country is my favorite event to race. I had a super fun time at the Barrington Woods Trail 5K on Saturday and got to compete in a tactical race which is my all time favorite thing to do with running. In the first mile, one runner went out too hard. I knew this would probably be the case so I just patiently ran behind him and let him do his thing. There's no need to lead from the gun. 5K is a long race.I caught up with him after 3/4 of a mile and made a definitive move to pass him. Shortly after, another running came up on my shoulder and I held back to let him run with me for a bit. I then made a surge on a quick left turn and downhill single track segment to gain some distance on 2nd place, and then ran a strong and steady pace until I was out of sight of 2nd place. After I was out of sight of the chasing runners, I knew it would be mentally hard for anyone to catch me so I eased up a bit and more or less was able to tempo until the end. Marathons and half marathons are a fun challenge but they are essentially time trials for all of us. Shorter, tactical racing is so much fun and something that everyone can participate in no matter your speed or ability. It takes skill, experience, patience, and at times event guts. I think this is why I love 5K, cross country, trails, and track so much. Make sure you put some shorter races in your calendar when building up to a half marathon or marathon. They are awesome and hard in a completely different way.#knightonlions #marathoncoaching

#snsinstitutions#snsdesignthinkers#snsdesignthinking Track eventsTrack events are races between athletes that take place on an oval track that is normally 400 metres long. It is divided into lanes and has a surface of asphalt, rubber or tartan.Short distance racers are called sprinters. They start with their feet against a starting block and their hands on the track. When a gun is fired the race begins and the sprinters run as fast as they can towards the finish line, but they must always stay in their lanes.Short distance races cover distances of 100, 200 and 400 metres. The 100 metre dash is one of the most popular events at such a track and field meeting. The world record holder is considered to be the fastest man on earth,Middle distance races are the 800, 1 500 and sometimes the 3,000 metre races. Runners need speed but also endurance. The 5,000 and 10,000 metre races are the longest races on the track. Athletes have to train a lot and run many km a day in order to complete such a race. They must learn to keep a steady pace and also must be able to have enough energy for the final metres. The longest race is the marathon. It goes back to 490 B.C. when a Greek soldier ran all the way from Marathon to Athens (about 40 km) to tell the people about a great military victory. Today the marathon distance is 42.195 metres and it is run mostly on roads.Relays are races in which teams of runners compete against each other. Four athletes form a team and take turns running around the track. They have to pass a stick , called a baton to their next team-mate before they reach the finish line. The most common relay races are the 4X 100 metres and the 4X400 metres. In a hurdle race athletes must jump over obstacles called hurdles which are about 1 metre high.- Men run the 110 metre and 400 metre event, women the 100 metre and the 400 metre event.
