The Olympic Games Paris 2024 are set to be an appetising buffet of sport. With 329 events on offer, there will be no shortage of athleticism, entertainment and inspiration over the 16 days of competition from 27 July to 11 August.
From the men’s 100m on the track, to the women’s 400m freestyle in pool, athletes will live out the first part of the Olympic motto, “Citius, Altius, Fortius,” (“Faster, Higher, Stronger”). However, it will be the mixed gender events that most aptly capture the full Olympic motto, “Citius, Altius, Fortius – Communiter,” (“Faster, Higher, Stronger - Together”).
These events will break the traditional male and female divide within sports, encouraging cooperation between athletes of both genders, while measuring the depth, skill and collaboration of national teams.
Whether they’re aiming for the bullseye, or looking to score an ippon for their team, the athletes in these events will prove that Olympians are stronger together.

Archery
Mixed Team
The archery mixed team event is set to return to the Olympic Games after its debut at Tokyo 2020.
Featuring one male and one female archer, the event tests the accuracy and mental fortitude of both archers.
The format is similar to other team events in archery, with the caveat that 16 teams advance to the elimination rounds.
With scores being decided by millimetres and centimetres, both archers will need to be consistent and accurate if they want to survive the ranking round and fight for a medal in the elimination matches.

Athletics
4x400m Mixed Relay
The 4x400m mixed relay is set for an encore appearance at Paris 2024.
Featuring four athletes, two male and two female, it tests the speed, endurance and coordination of participating athletes.
Consisting of four 400m legs, each athlete on the team is required to run once. The order of the legs is male, female, male, female, but teams are permitted to choose which athletes run each leg.
A baton is exchanged between runners during the relay. It must be exchanged between runners within the 20m long designated changeover zone near the finish line of the track. A dropped baton, or failed exchange, can disqualify the entire team.

Marathon Race Walk Mixed Relay
The marathon race walk mixed relay will make its Olympic debut at Paris 2024.
Split into four legs of slightly more than 10 kilometres, the relay will cover the marathon distance of 42.195km.
The order of the legs is male, female, male, female. However, teams will only be allowed one male and one female race walker, meaning they’ll each need to complete around half a marathon during the event.
Teams will not be required to use a baton, but that won’t make the event any less tense. With judges carefully monitoring the athletes for rules infractions, there will be little room for error.
Judo
Mixed Team
After a thrilling debut at Tokyo 2020, the mixed team judo competition returns for Paris 2024.
Bringing a team element to an individual sport, the mixed team event encourages judoka to support their teammates, while demonstrating the strength of national teams.
Featuring three male judoka and three female judoka, matches are split into six individual matches by weight class: 73kg, 90kg and +90kg for men, and 57kg, 70kg and +70kg for women.
A judoka earns their team one point when they win a bout. The team with the most points wins the match.
If a match is tied at 3-3, a random draw is held to determine which gender and weight class face off in the tiebreaker.
Teams compete head-to-head following the same repechage system as individual competition until only one team remains to claim the gold medal.

Shooting
10m Air Rifle Mixed Team
The 10m air rifle mixed team event returns to the Olympic Games after a successful debut at Tokyo 2020.
Featuring two shooters, one male and one female, the event tests the mental discipline, precision and breathing of both athletes.
Unlike other mixed team events, National Olympic Committees (NOCs) are allowed to enter a maximum of two teams in the competition.
The competition is held over two phases: qualification round and final.
Shooters will aim at stationary targets in both rounds, with decimal zones introduced in the final. The scores of each shooter will count towards the team total in both phases, meaning every shot counts in this tense event.
10m Air Pistol Mixed Team
The 10m air pistol mixed team event will also return to the Olympic Games after its debut at Tokyo 2020.
The rules are similar to the 10m air rifle mixed team event, with the athletes using pistols instead of rifles.
Shooters will also discard their specialised stiff outfits in favour of more casual athletic attire.
A compelling combination of precise movements, controlled breathing and consistent scores will be required to win the gold medal.
Skeet Mixed Team
The skeet mixed team event will make its Olympic debut at Paris 2024.
Featuring two shooters, one male and one female, the event will test the adaptability, accuracy and aim of both shooters.
The competition will be held in two phases: qualification round and final.
In both phases, shooters will use a shotgun to fire at 10m clay discs travelling at 100 kph from eight different stations around the shooting range. The discs are launched by machines on both sides of the range, and will break into pieces and release a puff of colored dye when hit.
Shooters get a point for every disc they hit, with both shooters' scores contributing to the team total in each phase of the event.

Swimming
4x100m Mixed Medley Relay
As the newest swimming event at the Olympic Games, the 4x100m mixed medley relay offers plenty of excitement.
Featuring four swimmers, two male and two female, the event tests an individual swimmer's speed and technical ability, while challenging national teams to form the fastest squad possible.
All four swimmers are required to swim a single 100m leg. The order of the legs is backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle.
The catch is that teams are free to choose which swimmer swims each leg. This creates a compelling tactical challenge for each team, as they need to anticipate the order of opposing teams and design a faster squad.
Like any other swimming relay, the team that touches the wall first after the final leg is the winner.

Triathlon
Mixed Relay
The triathlon mixed relay returns to the Olympic Games after a successful debut at Tokyo 2020.
Featuring four athletes, two men and two women, the mixed team event brings a team element to the triathlon, awarding the fastest teams.
Speed is at the forefront of the event, as the distances for all three sections of the triathlon are significantly shortened for the mixed relay.
Each leg features a 300m swim, a roughly 7.4km bike and 2km run. The order of the legs is male, female, male, female, with each athlete going once during the race.
Athletes are not required to exchange a baton, but they must complete the changeover in the designed zone at the end of each leg. The team that crosses the finish line first wins the event.

More events where men and women will compete together
Badminton, table tennis and tennis will also feature mixed doubles events at Paris 2024. NOCs will be tasked with fielding their strongest players in both genders to increase their chances of winning a medal in all three sports.
Sailing will also be among the sports featuring mixed gender events. The crews in the multihull and two person dinghy events are required to be mixed gender, placing an emphasis on teamwork, as crews attempt to outmanoeuvre their competition on the water.
Finally, equestrian events will be open to riders of both genders, making it one of two sports where men and women compete directly against one another at Paris 2024.
